I was very pleased this week to be asked by Paul Biggs to prepare two guest weblog posts for jennifermarohasy.com. The first post was an introduction to the North Pacific Residual, originally titled “The PDO is NOT a Simple Residual Like the AMO”, which explains its content.

The second post, “Natural Variability of SSTs Has Not Been Accounted For By the CCSP”, highlights the significant drop in many SST data sets from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. This anomaly, an apparent result of THC/MOC, was overlooked by the CCSP when they prepared their draft of the "Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States", as were other natural variables that influenced climate and contributed to the warming over the 20th century.

The Smith and Reynolds SST Posts DOES NOT LIST ALL SST POSTS. I stopped using ERSST.v2 data for SST when NOAA deleted it from NOMADS early in 2009.
Please use the search feature in the upper left-hand corner of the page for posts on specific subjects.

NOTE: I’ve discovered that some of the links to older posts provide blank pages. While it’s possible to access that post by scrolling through the history, that’s time consuming. There’s a quick fix for the problem, so if you run into an absent post, please advise me. Thanks.
