I’ve moved to WordPress. This post can now be found at January 2009 SST Anomaly Update
###############The first NINO3.4 SST anomaly graph illustrates raw WEEKLY OI.v2 SST anomaly data that’s centered on Wednesdays, from January 3, 1990 to January 28, 2009. The rest of the graphs illustrate raw monthly OI.v2 SST anomaly data from November 1981 to January 2009.
The monthly change (January 2009 Minus December 2008) in Global SST anomalies was approximately -0.018 deg C. The only two datasets with increases were the South Atlantic (+0.068 deg C) and the Arctic Ocean (+0.021 deg C). The other Ocean datasets showed decreases. NINO3.4 SST anomalies are well below the threshold of a La Nina, but it would require a few more months of NINO3.4 SST anomalies below -0.5 deg C for the CPC to consider this a full-fledged La Nina event.
